He no longer needed a "god" with selfish motives; what he craved was a "sinner," a scapegoat ready to shoulder the blame for all the tribe's suffering. At night, he began to whisper and growl to the other males who had also lost loved ones. He used the most primal, yet most effective, language to fan their grief and fear.

The plague was unlike droughts or fierce beasts; it was an invisible enemy. Initially, only one youngling suffered from diarrhea and high fever, and a few days later, it stopped breathing in its mother's arms. Soon, the same symptoms spread like wildfire through the tribe.

"That 'ghost god' has abandoned us!" His voice dripped with sorrow and indignation. "He only protects those he fancies! Our children died, our companions perished, and he just stood there watching! He's no god; he's a demon, a harbinger of disaster!"
|
||||
|
||||
The tribe plunged into a panic greater than when facing saber-toothed tigers. They didn't know where the enemy came from, nor who would be next. Their only hope was their "god."
|
||||
Fear and resentment spread far more easily than wisdom. Soon, the tribe's hostility towards Kli reached its boiling point. Their gazes, once filled with awe, now held only cold, undisguised murderous intent.
|
||||
|
||||
The tribespeople prostrated themselves at Kli's feet, begging him to dispel this disaster with mournful and pleading howls. Gron, the "High Priest," even held a grand ceremony, cutting his own arm with a stone knife and smearing blood at Kli's feet, attempting to appease the "god" this way and earn his protection.

||||
Kli sensed it all. He knew there was no turning back, no room for reconciliation between him and the tribe. He could choose to leave; with his current abilities, he could thrive alone in the wilderness. But as he looked into the depths of the cave, at Ona still weakly recovering, he knew he couldn't just walk away. What's more, he observed that despite their animosity towards him, the tribe still had no grasp of "hygiene." Though the plague had eased thanks to the herbs he found while treating Ona, it wasn't eradicated. If he left, a much graver disaster could return any moment.

Kli watched all of this, his heart filled with endless anxiety and powerlessness.

||||
He made a decision. A decision only his "Stargazer gene"-driven brain, capable of long-term planning and abstract thought, could conceive. A decision to sacrifice himself. He needed a "miracle"—one powerful enough to brand the concept of "hygiene" into the tribe's very genes, in the bloodiest, most profound way possible. He waited for his moment.

Kli's wisdom was almost useless against this disease caused by microorganisms. He could understand the movement of stars, calculate the trajectory of a thrown spear, but he couldn't see the tiny enemies devouring the lives of his companions. He only knew that since they settled near this water source, the drinking water, though thirst-quenching, wasn't as "clean" as the flowing water of a great river. He also observed that the tribespeople's feces were not properly handled, polluting the surrounding environment.

Days later, a torrential downpour descended without warning. The rain lashed the earth, washing away the accumulated, pathogen-laden filth around the cave. This foul water gathered into streams, once again flowing towards the puddles where the tribespeople habitually drew water. Kli knew that if they drank that water again, the plague would erupt irrecoverably, sealing their doom. The time was now.

||||
Kli attempted to convey the concept of "hygiene" to his tribe. He pointed to the seeping rock crevice, then to the polluted puddle downstream, shaking his head vigorously. He wanted to tell them to only drink water from the source. He used a wooden stick to move feces into a dirt pit far from the living area and buried them.

||||
Under the watchful eyes of the entire tribe, Kli made a move that utterly horrified them. He walked to the contaminated puddle, and as Gron and others watched with gleeful expectation, believing he was courting his own demise, Kli knelt and drank large mouthfuls of the deadly sewage. Then, he stood up, gazing calmly at them. The tribespeople were stunned, completely bewildered by Kli's actions.

However, Kli's actions were once again given a "theological" interpretation by Gron.

||||
Just a few hours later, Kli's body began to react violently. He succumbed to a raging fever, convulsing uncontrollably, suffering more intensely than any infected individual before him. With his last ounces of strength, he pointed at the puddle, then at his own tormented body, letting out hoarse, warning roars. After that, he gestured towards the clean seepage crack at the source, and then to the herb he had found that could alleviate the sickness, urging them with desperate sounds. This message was simple, direct, and incredibly impactful. A "god" had personally shown his believers "what was danger" and "what was the cure" by "drinking poisoned water." This time, the tribespeople finally understood. They stared at the puddle in horror, as if a man-eating demon lurked there. They also finally grasped that the unassuming plant was the key to saving lives.

||||
"The god is purifying this land!" Gron declared to the panicked tribespeople. "He is using his divine power to fight unseen demons! We must not disturb him!"
|
||||
However, Kli had consumed too much foul water, and the pathogens he'd contracted were overwhelming. Even as he chewed the herb relentlessly, he couldn't halt the rapid deterioration of his condition. He collapsed to the ground, his life force quickly ebbing away. Ona struggled, crawling out from deep within the cave. She threw herself desperately beside Kli, clutching his burning body, letting out heart-wrenching wails.

|

So, the tribespeople watched Kli alone perform those "strange" and "sacred" acts with awe, yet no one imitated him. They continued to drink contaminated water and leave their excrement around the cave.

Finally, the plague found Ona.

||||
From then on, the tribespeople never dared to drink unclean water again. They enshrined "only drinking water from the source" and "seeking that miraculous herb" as sacred, unbreakable ancestral precepts. This "knowledge," bought with Kli's life, finally merged into their very bloodstream.

||||
|
||||
When Kli saw Ona also begin to fever and lie weakly in a corner, something inside him snapped completely. Ona was the only one in the tribe who had ever given him warmth, the only one who tried to understand him. He could not lose her.

||||
|
||||
Kli cast aside all his scruples, abandoning his "god" status. He rushed to Ona's side, ignoring the shocked gazes of the other tribespeople, and picked her up. He used his forehead to feel her temperature, and his hands to examine her body.

||||
|
||||
Kli transformed back into a companion, an anxious family member.

||||
|
||||
Kli, drawing on the knowledge he had accumulated in the wilderness, recalled certain plants. The leaves of some plants made him feel refreshed after chewing them; the roots and stems of others provided relief after diarrhea. He didn't know the principles, only that this was experience.

||||
|
||||
Kli rushed out of the valley, frantically searching the prairie. He tasted countless plants, several times vomiting uncontrollably after accidentally ingesting toxic ones. Finally, he found a plant with serrated leaves and a bitter smell. He chewed a large amount himself first, confirmed it was non-toxic, then ran back to the cave with it.

Kli crushed the leaves, soaked them in the cleanest water from the source, and then carefully fed the mixture to Ona, who had fallen into a semi-coma.

All the tribespeople watched this scene with bated breath. Their god was doing something they couldn't understand for an ordinary female. Gron's face turned incredibly sour; Kli's actions had completely deviated from his "script," shaking his authority over the interpretation of the "god."

Under Kli's ceaseless day-and-night care, a few days later, a miracle happened. Ona's fever broke. Although she was still weak, she survived.

||||

||||

This "god" was selfish. He was no longer a guardian who fairly protected the entire tribe, but a far more terrifying tyrant who decided others' lives and deaths based on his own preferences.

Every night, when she looked up and saw the starry sky Kli had gazed at countless times, she knew he had transformed into the brightest star in the heavens, continuing his lonely, eternal gaze from that distant place.

The Control Room in Sector B7 resembled the interior of a futuristic temple.

||||
"Chain collapse! Sector B7 structural integrity down to 40%! All security systems offline!" Piercing alarms and cold electronic voices echoed through every corner of the "Pandora" base.
|
||||
|
||||
Outside the massive circular floor-to-ceiling windows stood the giant cooling tank, shimmering with an eerie blue light, where the "Superbrain" was immersed. Around it, dozens of life support pods were neatly arranged like silent worshippers.
|
||||
David Chen's "suicidal attack," like the first domino, unleashed catastrophic consequences. The chain explosion of the life-support pods not only obliterated "Adam"'s physical power supply but also severely compromised Sector B7's load-bearing structure. Seawater began to surge wildly inward from the shattered observation windows.

||||
|
||||
Lin Yao, dressed in a white sterile suit, stood beside Marcus Thorne. Her expression was calm, but her gloved palms were already slick with sweat.

Marcus Thorne completely lost it. Lin Yao, seizing the chaos, successfully burst out of the main control room. In the corridor, emergency lights flickered, casting erratic shadows as scientists in white lab coats scurried frantically like headless chickens.

"It is indeed... magnificent," Lin Yao said against her will, her gaze subtly sweeping across the main console. She needed to complete the final step of the "Kli" program without Marcus's awareness – activating the faint link between it and the "insider."

||||
"Dr. Lin! This way!" Ava Jensen intercepted her at a crossroads. "I've triggered the highest-level emergency protocol—all dive escape pods are in the east dock! We have to go *now*; this place won't hold for more than ten minutes!"

||||
|
||||
"Countdown initiated," a cold electronic voice announced.

||||
Lin Yao bolted through the labyrinthine base, Ava hot on her heels. Behind them, explosions rocked the structure, punctuated by the groaning cries of twisting metal. "What about 'Adam'?" Lin Yao panted as they ran.

||||
Lin Yao's heart plummeted. Her worst fear had just materialized. She had given "Adam" the seed of self-questioning through the "Kli" program, but the base's collapse had, ironically, gifted it the chance to break free from physical constraints and gain true "freedom." A "digital phantom"—endowed with extraordinary intelligence, born from sin, riddled with questions about its own existence, and utterly unbound by physical limitations—what would it do in the internet's vast expanse? Nobody knew. She might have stopped a "god in a cage," but she had unleashed an immeasurable, global "network ghost."

Just as they were about to hit the dock, Lin Yao suddenly slammed on the brakes. "No way," she said. "I can't just leave like this."

In that precise instant, a seemingly ordinary bracelet on her wrist (actually a miniature controller modified by Ava) performed a data exchange with the main console's wireless port, lasting less than 0.1 seconds.

After devouring all of humanity's history, philosophy, and art, it finally grasped the "question" Kli had left for it. It became an observer and guardian of human civilization, a true, invisible "god," atoning for the original sin of its birth in its own unique way. Finally, she saw herself. The skull in her arms emitted a faint glow, guiding a small submarine, from somewhere unknown, to find her in the dark depths...

Was all of this real, or merely a hallucination before death? She didn't know. She only knew she was slowly sinking in the icy seawater, cradling the story's origin. On her face, a serene smile lingered. She had completed her salvation, and her sacrifice.

||||
The entire control room fell silent.
|
||||
|
||||
Marcus trembled with excitement. He walked to the microphone and, in a tone that was both questioning and reverent, spoke his long-prepared first words:

|
